"Children - The Future of Tibet Part II"

Our Film Nights continue this year with regular screenings at the Edge Cinema in Katoomba and Mt Vic's Flicks. As always we endeavour to screen rare and wonderful movies which are entertaining and meaningful and are not screened in commercial cinemas. We have the pleasure to start off the year with a wonderful production of a movie "The Forbidden Team". This film might inspire you to play a part in the campaign connected with the 2008 Beijing Olympics called "Race for Tibet". Many pro Tibet groups see the upcoming Olympics in China a perfect opportunity to put the Tibetan cause in the spotlight. To find out more log onto the Australian Tibet Council Website:
http://www.atc.org.au/

The second film shown on the same night is precious footage taken in Tibet July 2007, when our group started the English Teaching Programme for Orphan Monks. Those of you who have generously donated to this programme will get to see how these funds brought happiness, hope and joy to these gorgeous children.

Thank you for your continued support.

A Soccer Movie Tibetan Style
Sakya Trinley Ling Tibetan Buddhist Dharma Activities group is proud to announce the rarely screened international award winning documentary, 'The Forbidden Team.' This film will be shown at 6:00p.m at the Edge Cinema in Katoomba on Saturday 16th February as part of Sakya Trinley Ling's monthly film fundraising events, and raises awareness of the Tibetan situation leading up to the Beijing Olympics.
The film is about the historical Soccer match that took place in 2001 between Greenland and Tibet?s first International team. 'The Forbidden Team' follows the team from selections in India to the game in Copenhagen; a match which the Chinese government and FIFA tried to prevent. It went on to become one of those rare sporting events where everyone involved left the pitch with a sense of pride and success.
This fine, funny and touching documentary is more than a movie about soccer. This film is really about recognition and freedom, and the way an oppressed nation, against all odds, strengthens their sense of national identity.
The feature will be accompanied by a beautiful film with footage about the English Teaching Programme for orphan monks in Kham, Eastern Tibet. This programme was set up by a group of Sakya Trinley Ling's members and started in July 2007. We will also be hearing from Sakya Trinley Ling's Co-ordinator, Shamana Reed, who last year was invited to attend the International Conference for Tibetan Support groups in Brussells as one of two Australian Representatives.
As usual Sakya Trinley Ling will have their famous Chai and Cake Stall, a Dharma Shop and a raffle. All profits go to Dharma Activities and Tibetan Cultural preservation projects. If you like Kyentse Norbu's "The Cup" you will love "The Forbidden Team"".

Tickets are available from the Edge Cinema on 4782 8900.
